This is the generation where we all hate using our old desktop computers and everyone is switching to sleek, slim, advanced high power notebook computers. There are different factors one should consider while looking to buy a notebook computer. And let us discuss few such important concerns before buying a notebook.
- First thing, keep in mind about your budget so that you will make the best out of it.
- Look for the processor : Processor is the main matter of concern as you will have to make the right choice or else you will suffer later. A good processor is a must as you will keep your notebook with you for some long time and it should have ability to process applications in a fast way. You should keep in mind that you will use it for at least two years and it should be the same experience it should provide even after two years of usage. In current market, it is better to choose a powerful processor which is at least 1.73 GHz.
- Important concern – RAM : 256MB and 512 MB are now outdated. The minimum configuration to look for these days is 2GB. Also confirm before buying laptop that the RAM is upgradable. If it is upgradable, you can get it upgraded any time so as to suit the requirements.
- Hard Disk : The storage capacity is another main feature of a laptop. It entirely depends on how you use the system, but the minimum requirement for today as I recommend would be 100GB. If you are a programmer and not use your system for anything else, even less than 100GB is also enough for you, but if you love movies and keep loads of movies, you may go for 250 GB or more.
- Battery : This is the thing which is applicable only for notebook and not desktop. It plays vital role when you are using it in any remote place where you will not get ac mains. At least your laptop should provide you a stand by time of 3 hours. Notebook batteries are not built to provide a back up time of 15-20 hours, but choosing the best available is wise.
Apart from these things, there are many more factors you may need to consider like warranty, screen size, weight, wireless features, ethernet, S-video port, audio, video etc.
It is most recommended for you to go through notebooks reviews in detail so that you will not suffer after buying. In my opinion, if you are planning on Acer laptop, I would recommend Acer Extensa 4620.

I have my first ever notebook computer and must say that I love it. I take it almost everywhere with me — guess that labels me “geek”
. I looked at different notebooks over the course of several months and comparison shopped before purchasing my Toshiba Satellite A215 and I must say that I highly recommend this particular notebook. It was reasonably priced, came with 2GB of upgradeable memory, built in WiFi, cd/dvd read/write, 250GB hard drive, dual 64 AMD processors and wasn’t loaded down with bloatware. My battery is the standard battery which is supposed to be good for 2 hours but which I find actually only lasts about an hour to an hour and a half depending upon what I’m doing. Plugged into main power, this baby is a workhorse and a half. My job requires me to use some pretty intense programs (SQL, Visual Studio, Microsoft Office) and it handles the load with ease.
