One thing to keep in mind is that every provider has a different definition of what “managed” means when it comes to hosting. There are disreputable providers out there who will tell you that they are providing you with a managed hosting service, but when you read the fine print, you find out that what they will actually help you with is really quite limited – I’ve even seen plans were the “management” part was basically limited to free reboots on the server. Probably not quite what most people would expect.

So, when it comes to managed hosting, make sure you understand what kind of services are included (or specifically not included). Many hosts will help you with anything you request, but only for a specified amount of time – those are the management plans I tend to prefer.

In my experience, managed web hosting is much better than unmanaged, unless you have experience and know exactly what you are doing. If you’re new to having a website, or even hosting a website, you should definitely go with managed hosting.

Managed hosting is a great choice if you are not technically inclined and just want to have someone else manage and maintain your dedicated server. We once tried to manage a server ourselves and soon found it took more time than required. It is always good to have a professional work on something if you are unsure of how things work.
